Understanding Utility Rates

To estimate the cost of utilities, you will need to contact the appropriate providers for your area. Utilities deregulation in Maryland, DC, and Vir-ginia means that you will have many more options to select from in choosing service providers. You should thoroughly research your options before making a decision.
This list includes only the major providers in the area. You should refer to the web site of your specific county for information on alternative pro-viders, who may have lower rates than the major providers. The list is organized by the utilities provided by each company. Note that there are many companies that provide more than one type of service, and they may offer special rates on bundled service packages.

A NOTE ABOUT FEES: Many utility companies require a security deposit (in addition to necessary service charges) if you are requesting service for the first time. Be sure to ask for an explanation of all possible charges when you are calling to initiate service.
